Hello,

I'm fairly new to these forums but I've been reading them for a little while. I work in an optics lab at the University of Southern California and I just started getting into these Blu-Ray lasers.

I was looking around for a good driver kit and noticed that most of the ones available on Ebay are from overseas and really cheaply made (not all of them). Most of the other ones I found are designed nice and small but a little too small for general hobby work (surface mount components, etc). Anyway, I designed my own driver and while it's not the smallest thing in the world, it might be useful to someone who is tinkering with these drivers. I'm basically selling the whole thing at cost, so I just wanted to post my link in case anyone is interested:

Oh and there's also a video I made on there with some of the cool things you can do with the Blu-Ray lasers. I'd love to hear any critiques for the next generation!

Thanks,
Ben

P.S. Forgive me if this should go into the Buy/Sell forum, but I'm not trying to make a profit here!

Me thinks you need to read some more threads here...aside from the enclosure you can build the same DIY PHR module @120mW for under $20.

First... welcome to the Forum... and yes I believe it should be in
the B/S/T section... (since you asked).. ::)

I see your are using a driver similar to the DDL circuit that some
members here use.
As a business... I think you have a fairly priced item on eBay...

Correct me if I'm wrong... It includes:

- a Blu-Ray LD (I'm guessing PHR803T.. by the mW)
- an Aixiz housing C/W lens
- all new parts for the Driver
- Professionally produced Printed Circuit Board
- I assume... assembly instructions C/W schematic
- and a plastic enclosure C/W battery compartment...

For a fully prepare kit of all parts... this looks like a good deal
for someone's first 405nm Blu-Ray build... 8-)

@TJ.... I know... It's too bad.... but not everyone is a member of LPF
and can build lasers for under cost... ;D ;)

Thanks for the feedback. I bought my first PHR DIY kit for under $30, but it was a proto-board with only 6 components or so. I wanted to make a nice printed circuit board with a tactile button and make it easier to assemble for the general public who may not be so technically inclined and just thought that LPF might like a link.

Here were my costs:

PHR803T laser diode and lens module - $20
Printed circuit board (apcircuits.com) - $12
Components from Digikey - $7
Enclosure - $5

Plus Ebay fees and other things brings it to about $50.

Oh and if an admin wants to move this thread, that's fine. :)

By the way, here is the schematic for the circuit I made.  Nothing fancy.
