Hello, i need help with my first diy red laser and i search the whole wibe web for an answer on what diode is put in the lite-on LDW-851s.
I got it working at 300ma it is working pretty good but my problem is that i cannot find anny info about the drive.
For accidenty i connected my diy l1117 driver on the wrong way and it put out the max 1.16 amp.
But the funny thing was that it got a little warm, but deffenitly not warmer than my 200mw ultrafire wf-502b of greenie, also the beam stayed as bright as it was.
But i put my other driver with 5 ohm for a 250ma. I'm gonna make some pictures this afternoon.

I know for sure that is didn't died because of all the ones that i did blew haha but this one just keeps taking more current and keep getting brighter and at the 1.16 amp there was a very bright beam even thow i had it unfocust.

I'm charging my camera batteries ow damn i got 8.1 mp in my phone gonna make some right now

I still had a lite-on 8x dvd+r (LDW-851s) that is where the diode is from and i really cannot find anything about it no code on the diode case nothing in a datasheet or something, i wanna know how far i can push it

it mostly says in a data sheet. for example: 50mA min, 300mA adviced , 600mA treshold. doesn't the datasheet say anything about it or don't u have one?

I agree with you ! Where did you find the datasheet ?

@Michiel87

I suggest you not to exceed 300mA for long diode life ! But i still cant understand how this diode survived from 1,6A ! Are you sure about the driver ouput ? How did you checked it ?

Well i put it back to 300ma and its was set to 1.16A i think the max of the l1117(if i'm right).
Wrong soldering i think
But i think that it didn't fry the ld because of that my batteries where not full enough, so the voltage over the ld was only 2.9/3.1.
So i'm gonna change the current to max 300 to 350ma, and fully charge my batteries it's a 3xaaa host.

I checked it with my multimeter and a dummyload of 1ohm and 4x1n4007.
I think it gave 3.13V and 1.16A, but the strange think is that i already burned 2 diode's in a couple of weeks ago and i though this one would die of that current but it didn't so i think it was because of the low voltage.
What i did saw was that the beam was very bright even though i didn't had a focussing lens screw'd in, i believe the beam of the red was about the same if not better to see than my 250mw greenie.
Also what i noticed is that my 200 or 250 green laser's become way more hot than my diy red, i got it at 350ma and it stay's cold forever.
Is that normal?
