Need help choosing parts for a red laser

Hello everyone,

I'm thinking about building a red labby style laser. (I'm basically following this video.) Since almost all the links for the parts weren't working, I found all of them myself. Here's a list of things that I found...

Diode: HighTechDealZ - 650nm LPC826 Red Laser Diode in Aixiz Module

Heatsinks: I can salvage those, or you can send a link for one.
Glasses (duh): Laser Safety Glasses, Goggles, Eyewear :: Dragon Lasers

One problem though, I can't decide on a power supply. I salvaged a pc power supply but it won't output a low enough voltage for the driver to handle. (It's a bestec atx-250-12z rev d7r) Any suggestions and links will be welcomed. And if I'm doing this all wrong, please tell me...

Why not build something like this.

You also need a test load to set the
current since those drivers don't come
preset, and for testing purposes.

Get an ESD wrist strap if you don't already
have one and wear it at all times during
assembly and handling.

I have a pair of those glasses and they don't
work for those diodes. Get these or these
instead.

For the power supply, find a 5V 1A phone
charger or USB to mains adapter. Look for
a good brand, such as Samsung, Motorola,
Nokia, etc. Goodwill or another thrift
store usually has them. Cut the end off
and determine the polarity with a multimeter.

Even though you have more experience than I do, I have to ask. Why don't the other glasses work? They block 650nm light. Is it the optical density? Or is the laser just too powerful for the glasses?

They are mislabeled and /or poor quality.
They don't do much of anything until around
640nm. So they might be fine for 638nm
lasers, but not much else. The same goes
for all the ones on eyeBay, Amazone, and
anywhere else offering cheap safety
glasses. The Eagle Pair Survival sells are
the cheapest ones that work by far. The
next cheapest are probably the $150 ones at
AixiZ. There is a lot more information
here and many discussions, just do a search.
