Need 650nm protection

What goggles would you guys recommend that I buy for protection against 650nm wavelength that cost around $50 ($70ish shipped)? I was looking at WL, but I just have a bad taste in my mouth about their products (I know their goggles are supposed to be OK, I'm just still a little "iffy"). I'm looking for something OD 2+, and looking to purchase within the next day or so. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
 





There's nothing wrong with the WL lasershades, I don't know of any other place where you can get 650nm protection goggles for that price. Their goggles are good and a lot of experienced members on the forum recommend them. (especially Gazoo)

PS, they're good because they don't make them themselves. ;D
 
Is there any difference in performance between the "lab version" of the goggles and the sport elite version?
 
The red protection sport ones are OD2 so they transmitt 1% of 650nm light, their red protection lab style goggles are OD3 so they transmit .1% of 650nm light.
 
Wow, so they're charging you more for less?
I'm definitely getting the lab version, more protection for less money.
 
I don't think it's the OD rating what defines the price, I bet the sport style goggles cost them more and that's why they charge more.
 
It's purely marketing. The sports look slick, people want them. Basic economics...demand drives up price. The wholesale cost is the same for these. They are playing on one of the oldest human motivations. "I look cool, and I'll pay well to look cool."

OD does drive the price as well as VLT. The model doesn't at the wholesale level.

Your eyes are priceless, and you could just buy 2 LaserShades for $80 ($100 shipped). Or get some custom made from CNI for about $30 more.
 
Is there general dual laser ones or do you need custom ones..

better to just get lower power ones or get higher and goggles! :P
 
Frothy, I have a question on your multi wave length goggles.

I have been looking at them for while, I have been playing with lasers but haven't actually started any work that I have planned due to time so I haven't purchased any goggles yet. I'm concerned that the low OD for 532 and 650 won't fit my needs for protection, how well will they work from 200mW of Red and or Green?
 
Well you have to ask yourself a question, do I need to see the beam spot or not. If you need to see the beam spot then you need alignment glasses. If not, you can go with a higher OD for the added protection. Now the broadband alignment protection for 200mW of red or green will be:

200mW 532nm @ OD 2.5+ = 0.63mW pass through on a direct exposure
200mW 650nm @ OD 1.5+ = 6.32mW pass through on a direct exposure

The difference between the green protection and the red protection is a factor of 10.

The alignment glasses will work well for your lower power applications.
