n00b looking for outdoor laser in the desert

I had a nice red laser from years ago which focused and the switch went bad. I am looking for a red laser (I assume red will be best for this purpose), one with focus ability and will work well in the daytime out here in the Las Vegas desert. My use is strictly to stop my dog from chasing the rabbits. I need him to chase the laser back to me as he's not as well trained as my previous dogs (yet).
So, and help on something for my needs?
I tried one from Staples which was rated at 800yds, but it was a joke and nothing like my good one and I could barely see it outside when I aimed it at the ground by my feet (package told me is was <5mw, but no info like that when I ordered it online :(
I know dogs have color issues so I am worried about trying different colors.
I will be firing the laser at the desert ground so something that shows up on light dirt and grey rocks is what I am looking for.

Thanks for reading

To use it during the day, you will need a high power laser but using one might cause your dog to blind.

Edit: i thought dogs only have two cones which means they can distinguish blue and yellow, but not red and green. So the red laser might not be the best for this use

According to this website(https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/canine-corner/200810/can-dogs-see-colors), dogs only see yellow, blue & gray as you mentioned.

If that's the case 445nm/450nm is pretty much your only option, as it's the only wavelength available at high enough powers to be visible while still being cheap on the wallet.
