Hello all !
Here is a new MXDL project with a 803T which can be set at 125 ma (default current) and at 173 ma, through a miniature switch (found anywhere)
I added a switch to play with 2 value of current instead of set the diode directly at 173 ma, beacause i remenbered one phrase from IgorT :
So i have an idea. Why not run a 803T in a safe current (125 ma) and after few second when it get a little warm, push a button to be at higher current ? it won't stress the diode with a high current when power on, if we go with one step.
Dunno if it will last longer with this setup, we will see !
We can see the increase of power with match burning ( see the video below this post) quite impressive
Here is the I,Mv plot for this diode (did with my solar cell setup), i just harvested it from a sled

The third freak was the weakest of the three, so it lasted the longest. I even had it on for 20 minutes at a time several times, and again last night. But as i said, i noticed some small power loss before that, and this morning, when it was cold, and the power was at it's highest, it just died at powerup.
