Hmm, $35 dollars for housing...

how much did Jake sell it to you originally anyway.

stopped working? That sucks! help me out (I know there is another thread about this build, but I don't feel like browsing) Wes, What kind of batts does this one take? If they're cr123's and it includes them, I might be interested.

HOWEVER, on a more important note, now since you exposed that your laser just all of a sudden stopped working, maybe you should pull Jake into the thread. I don't know, it just doesn't sound right. How did the laser just stop working? What does jake have to say about that? :-/

Overdriving a ~130mW diode to output 250-300mW good enough reason? ::) :D :D

This guy needs to stop trying to sell his broken and or defective lasers here. First the mode hopping dx true 50 and now a dead red burner and another red burner that he dropped.

The truth is, I really don't care and just want Wes to post a link (although I have been looking for a good cr123 host).  Plus, I agree with Razako here.  But, as it seems, he has no knowledge of how to build his own lasers so parts are no good to him.  I think $35 is a bit steep, maybe for a used functioning red diy, but not one that requires a re-build.

Truthfully Wes, I think you should probably consider why/what/where and how you start threads.  This should be in buy/sell/trade section.  That way cOLD doesn't have to keep moving these threads to keep the forum organized.  More importantly, you should be thinking about your future.  ;D No, seriously, what do you plan on doing for the rest of your life?  If your interests in lasers are genuine, then you should be self-motivated to learn basic electronics (series, parallel, soldering, etc.).  If I were you, I would have tore that sucker apart and replaced the diode, after of coarse first talking to the seller about why he sold me a bunk unit (unless I damaged it), but I don't buy - I build.  Seriously though, I think every person should have a basic understanding of electronics.  I have been soldering since I was 10.   There is nothing more gratifying then building your own laser (building the actual diode may be considered "advanced electronics"  ;D ) or understanding that you can take on other little electronic projects.

Most of my wasted money I've spent has nothing physical to show for it except for knowledge.  And that's priceless.   :'( <--- happy tears.

Seriously though, don't be afraid!  You can do it!  Replace the diode!  All you need is a little patience, a good soldering iron, some solder and some pliers a steady hand, (like the one you need to burn a match) and it should be simple.  I never failed.  Extracting them can be a bitch, but usually not.

At least, find out what exactly is wrong with your unit so people know exactly what their buying. Nobody want's a "maybe".

Good bye - Ace

yeah it works, but its not as bright as it was. before it was burning and then a min later i turned it on again and it would not burn and was very dim. ill include 2x Cr123A for 5$ more.
yes its powered by 2 cr123a.
it was originally a green laser, that jake tour the shit out of shit and made it into a very nice burner. i think all it need is a new diode which they aren't very expensive at all like 20$

i Already thought about my future.
i have been building Custom pc's Since i was 10.
im very good at soldering and i know how to work with static and electronics.
maybe if somebody thought me, i would actually like to build lasers.
i use lasers for lots of things, but once they break i have no use for parts like you said .

Of course it's the diode, a dead laser diode will still lase, but it'll be very weak. (weaker than one of those laser pointers you can get at the dollar store) ;D
That's why if I ever sell a laser I'll be sure to make that person understand that there's a chance the diode might burn out. Diodes are different, some are strong and last a long time, and some are weak and last from a couple of hours to a couple of minutes. So you can't guarantee that a home made laser will work for months, or years. :o
