Hey guys, I want to ask a very noob question.

"How does multi-mode lasers pointers work?"

By multi-mode I mean, High power, Low power, Strobe, SOS, etc..

Also, I want to ask that:

How is the modes controlled? Through the driver or through the switch circuit?

Is all drivers and diodes compatible with multiple modes?

Thanks,
Dragonizer

Using PWM, you can blink a laser (including blink patterns), set it to low or high power, etc.

For example, PWM for 50% power would be blinking the laser on and off VERY rapidly at a 50% duty cycle.

Now I get the LOW power and HIGH power part:yh:. :thanks:

But, I still want to ask:

Where is the PWM circuit situated? Near the switch or at the driver??

And, the high and low power is due to the duty cycle, how about the strobe/SOS mode? The strobe is just that the frequency is lower:thinking:?

Thanks

The modulation would be in the driver.

For the other modes, if the laser diode can be cycled on and off at 1kHz+, then cycling it at 10Hz or lower is no problem... ;)
