is it possible to replace the 5 mw diode in a laser pointer with one of senkat's diodes? is the driver in one of these low end lasers sufficient to drive a high powered diode such as senkat's?

In a word....No....
You would need an entirely new driver, and even then the batteries used may not have enough Juice to drive a GB diode.
It's not Impossible..it would take time...but unfortunately just swapping dodes won't work.
Flashlight mods are much more popular as they usually have enough room for a proper regulator circiut.
