I posted some time ago about setting up Microsoft Company Web and after a lot of trouble I got it up and running, with a little help from a member here.

I have a new issue now though... The company is getting a new server and upgrading the server to the latest Windows Server operating system.

Now the problem is, everything I have set up on the Intranet site will be lost... Is there some way of backing the intranet site up and transfering it over to the new server?

Can you give any more details about how this is set up? I guess it's an IIS install, with database back-end?

If worst comes to worst, you could make a VMWare image and run a virtual server on the new machine - that has the advantage of isolation as well, but in some circumstances can't be easily done, for example if the Intranet's content has to be linked with data on the "parent" server. Plus, you would need to keep to the old license very carefully.

EDIT: did some searchiing, found this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829112
Doubt it helps much but just in case. You might want to look into SharePoint if your company has some money to spare - whilst not cheap, it is very powerful indeed. My school use it as an all-in-one intranet solution.

Thanks, that could be useful.

I fear I may have to transfer bits of it over from the old server to the new manually... The new server comes with all sharepoint services etc. but its a newer version that the old server.

Unfortunatly thats not going to work... We fail the first criteria.

"You must restore the database to the same server where you performed the backup operation."

It's a new server with newer O/S.
