make an open can laser a closed can

Neat idea, but how would you attach them?

I guess that would change them into a kinda closed can, as I think there's still an opening on it for the fiber to stick in, so there's probably no window.

There really is no point in this. Once the open can diode is mounted in a module, nothing physically is going to happen to it.
And you would risk damage to the diode by trying to attach this thing.
