alrighty, now that i have a working red laser, i can start going for a new violet one hopefully.
any links to a 100mw+ purpley would be greatly appreciated. preferably it would have a clicky instead of a momentary, i dont care much about divergence. as most of you that have seen my posts, im very cheap. so the lower the price the better. :thanks:
sooner or later i will have to get some class 4 lasers, but not quite yet. unless theres some 800mw violet i can get for $70 :drool:
 





You had a working 405nm in your signature. Those are the only diode based violet lasers I am aware of. Are you looking for another one? There are some fairly inexpensive ones on eBay, but you might be looking for one that is of better quality. Let me know.

Are you interested in building your own? you could get a 12X diode and driver from DTR fairly cheap and it would output up to 700 mW depending on the lenses you use. It could be put into a fairly modest host with copper heat sink and would have a duty cycle of over a minute. Otherwise, I could find something for you somewhere else.

Not sure that would be good for someone as young as OP is. I would recommend something from o-like.com, they have reasonably powerful 405s for low cost.
 
well ive never built a laser before, so if i mess up, there goes a decent diode. so im probably not gonna build one.
links to one would be best, i prefer anything between 100-250mw. also if i can get a host that is small enough to fit in an 18x9cm box that would be best. i use that kind of box to store my current lasers and it works nicely.

Here is a 405nm labby with fan cooling and power supply for $36.00. Should have an infinite duty cycle.

I have never purchase a laser pointer, other than some cheap eBay ones, in my life. I built all the ones I have, so I'm not the one to ask about pointers.

Edit: Don't expect that 300 mW O-Like pointer to light cigarettes like it shows in the photo. It costs more than the one I linked you to that is 500 mW.

well after all it is focused in the picture, so maybe it is 300mw? the other pointers like that from olike are focused in the picture, and it does seem to be from a trusted site
 
A few months ago I took a chance on an ebay cheapie for under $20 delivered.
I thought "oh well if it dies, it dies" but to my surprise it's a beaut little violet burner.
Takes one 18650, safety key switch, momentary side button and a rubbishy 'star lens'.
But when you take the 'star lens' off it has a great little beam with a nice focusable spot for burning.

The one I bought isn't available any more but this one below is similar:

Not sure if that helps you or if you want something like that but thought I'd share it anyway.

yea thats the kind i got but these cheap ebay ones are very unpredictable it seems, i got one and it died on the first week. its in my signature. im probably not gonna get anything from ebay, because of this. ive had some really bad luck with it :/
i might just stick with the olike, because its actually portable (as in, you can hold it comfortably in your hand) and the host looks nice :)
aslong as it has a nice host and doesnt die, im happy.
 
The O-Like one you are looking at is the same laser you would get on eBay and it is supposedly greater than 250 mW in their fine print, even though they claim it to be 300 mW. It is a small pointer with very little heat sink. I've bought from O-Like before and every time shipping to me was SLOW. But, it is your money and your decision. I hope you are happy with it.


Edit: Just for the hell of it I spectrometered several cheap eBay pointers. The 80 mW 405nm I got is right at 405.46nm. The 650nm was actually right on the money 660nm, but the 635nm was actually 636.52nm which is off by more than I expected. The 532nm DPSSL is 532nm, but as it warms up it tends to climb, making the wavelength longer by less than 1nm.

Sorry for the double post, but I've been going through my cheap laser pointers and I have one 405nm that I paid about $10.00 for back a few years ago. It outputs 80 mW and is focusable to a fraction of a mm up to 20 inches away and will easily burn black plastic and light matches. It came with a Laser Shack logo on it and is one of those that needs a little key to switch it on. I know these are still available on eBay, and for the price, it cannot be beaten. If you are looking for a 405nm, this was a great deal and it is worth saying it again. I'm sure you can even find them in an auction, so it could be had for less.
 
I have Hap''s old HL405 it's great. I like it, good beam specs, LPM on my Hyperion at 150mw peak with fresh charge.. it will burn when focused on tape, and a few blasts of fog will give me a lightly visible beam in dark room.

I had my brother order from Olike once and as said here already very slow shipping and takes forever to get in contact with them via email.. not only this but they're changing email addresses regularly now I guess. I tried to get some optics from them, got no reply until I went throught the contact form on their site.

Goodluck and I'd get the HL405 from LaserBTB it's your best bet for safety, reliability, and quality. I usually build my lasers but this one was a great price used so I grabbed it.. why not build and buy!

I know you must already be aware but just wanted a friendly reminder. With 405nm you'll need at least a few hundred milliwatts before the beam and/or dot starts to look anything interesting. laserbtb is probably the best place for high powered 405nm lasers at good prices. I would recommend them! :)
