good we sorted that out. does it work now?

i have no idea i dont have a parts yet...
;)
on the other hands i dont need it immediately as i have a Flexdrive V3 at this moment but i want to try this circuit then..

it works!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I will try to get a shot of the laser up soon.

you didnt use a 10 ohm resistor as i can see...

i have one more question

will be there any diference if i will place 10ohm resistor in front or behind the POT????
- see picture

By not using the 10 Ohm limiting resistor... you risk damaging the Potentiometer (pot)
near it's highest current output (lowest resistance).

another question on my mind guys..

what is the current range with this 100ohm pot????

cheers

I actually used a 10 Ohm resistor so I cannot go above 125mA you probably just cant see it.
here is A closer picture

Now that's a nice clear picture.... I see the resistor now... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

great picture man thats exactly what i would to build, without board - only in a bare space..

but how to modify this circuit to get more current than 125ma????

you use a smaller resistor like 5 Ohm
all I needed was a flash ::)

all right thank you. on the other hand 125ma is for PHR enough i think.

but i still would like to know one thing...

In a case that i dont want to regulate current and want just fixed, how i need to modify this circuit??? Just remove a pot and replace it with regular resistor with desired OHMs???
for example if i want fixed  100ma
   110ma
   120ma
i just would like to gather information for my future builds
cheers

risk damaging the pot or damaging the ld? i am not aware of a way to damage the resistor by setting its resistance to the lowest value?

@rancor: interesting design ;)

The lowest value of the pot would be the lowest resistance.... Since the circuit that we are talking
about has all the current supplied by the driver... go through that Current Limiting POT (without the
10 Ohm resistor) you can easily burn the resistive coating on the pot's resistive wiping area..
These standard pots are not rated for high currents (only fractions of a Watt) ... and the LM317
Regulator is rated and can supply up to 1 Amperes of current... Much more than required to burn out
your pot's resistive surface.

Remember.... with that LM317 current limited circuit... the lower the pot (resistance) value...
the Higher the output current of the LM317... and vise-versa...  :cool:

From reading the posts on this thread... I would have bet money that you would have known this....

I seem to remember reading something like this on one of your posts referring to another member
that asked a valid question..
if you are not familiar with that you should seriously consider
a) visit physics class more often (if you are still in school)
b) get a book about this stuff
Or even read the Data Sheet...  :cool:

I may be wrong.... ::)

With available resistors from radio shack, you can make 144 ma output. I run this on all my blurays and they have lasted quite long with no signs of death.. Just run a 10 ohm and a 68 ohm resistor in parallel. That will give you 8.7 ohms.. If you are using a pot, this would be a good max..
