I know that.
I was wondering why he wanted an electric monster truck when the nitro versions are so much cheaper.
Nitro is awesome. I would know, I have had my Traxxas Nitro 4-Tec since 2002. It's got the old skool .15 engine. Anyways, don't automatically assume that nitro is better than electric. With a good brushless motor and lipo packs electric can smoke nitro. My buddy has a Losi Nitro 1/8 scale buggy that he converted to electric. It has a Mamba Max 2200kv motor and 5S lipo and it drives faster than my 4-tec on grass!
My beef with nitro is that they can be a pain to maintain sometimes. The motor tuning is very sensitive and they often have many more moving parts than electric. Nitro engines only last a few gallons of fuel too. Bare in mind that is alot, but electrics often last longer. Electric is also easier due to the fact that you just have to charge your packs and turn it on any your off! Don't get me wrong nitro is cool! Traxxas's EZ Start system makes starting a nitro engine very easy.
However, I did have a very good budget for a new R/C and decided to go all out. My Baja 5B is the most expensive hobby I own now next to my beloved Gibson X-plorer w/ dual DiMarzio pickups.
What people need to realize is that 1/5th scale gas R/C cars are about the same in price as a brushless with LiPo. HPI designed the Baja to be very tough! With the exception of a few highly recommended parts
a stock Baja is badass!!!
If you wanna draw a crowd every time your drive your R/C, go for the Baja! Hobby People has got the
5B for 8 bills now! I will admit is is more maintenance than an electric R/C but not as much as nitro I think. Other than the fact that it is a pain to clean you really don't need to take it apart except to oil and grease the drivetrain a diff every once in a while. But if your anything like me,
you love taking things apart! :
The car is massive! It weighs about 30 pounds and can get up to 40mph stock! Even more with a higher gearing. Anyways, enough talk. If pictures are worth a thousand words then here are 14,000 words.
