LOC build with large copper heatsink(pics)

HI Guys just wanted to show you my LOC build i finished yesterday The driver is set to 480ma. It is a 2xcr123 build in an 18650 xml-t6 host. I had the heatsink made at "Lunn Engineering" in macclesfield. All the rest of the parts are from "ODICFORCE LASER", imo the best uk laser parts website!!! The parts are, Lpc-815 sled (for diode) £6.50 ofl 158. High current LM358 based driver, £4.50 ofl-301. Silicone thermal compound £2.50 ofl-13. 12mm diode housing + acrylic lense £3.20 ofl-14. Custom Copper Heatsink £20.00 Lunn engineering macclesfield. And 18650 XML-T6 host £10!... I decided to set the driver at 480ma giving 300mw+ (approx). All the parts arrived within 24hrs of buying them, thanks to the outstanding service at "OdicForce Laser"... Im using the supplied acrylic lense for now. The assembled build is rather top heavy due to the weighty copper heatsink, its worth it though, iv ran it for ten minutes without it getting warm, so it does its job well. hope you all like it, and thanks to Jon at "ODICFORCE LASER" UK no1 laser hobbyist suppliers imho

Oh I thought that was the regulating chip well then what is the vreg is its linear region

re. bright beam...Yeah i must admit there is a little bit of glycerine fog in the room to bring the beam out a bit.. I tend to use it in most photos now, it,d be rude not too really lol

sorry about this, but where did you get the silicone thermal glue (is it glue?) from. I'm also going to be doing a build but all I could find is thermal compound paste which has no adhesive at all, just helps the heat disipation

RE: Thermal glue... The silicone compound i use isnt adhesive, i used it alongside quick set epoxy. The most commonly used (spoken about) thermal adhesive is "Arctic Silver" they have a wide range of products from pastes to epoxy. Arctic Silver thermal adhesive is a two part epoxy type thermaly conductive adhesive. Thats what you want really... Its upto you really the silicone compound is £2.20 from odicforcelaser.com also he stocks thermal cement for 99p in a tiny tube, that stuff sets pretty solid. It all depends on your budget.... feel free to ask away

well i did find a silicone thermal adhesive from hong kong for about £3, just wanted to know if there was anything closer to home

Linear regulators = linear region regulators...

They push the driving transistor more off or on depending on what the regulator requires. You can read a bit more how they work in http://laserpointerforums.com/f67/how-laser-diode-drivers-work-explanatory-thread-71513.html thread.

More or less all linear drivers are the same.

Yea but its a 2 amp driver so I'm kinda cur ion about its chip
