Hey,

I just recieved my 50mW green laser pointer from LEDshoppe. This is a reputable shop at which to buy them I've heard.

Anyway, I powered it up with some duracell AAAs and it was very bright. For about 3 seconds. Then the intensity of the dot really faded to sub 5mW power.

Hoping they just send me a new one. Can't see that happening tho.

:thanks:

The first one they sent me was way under-spec and I emailed them about it and politely asked that they replace the defective one they sent, often it took days to get a reply from them so patience is required, but they replied back and said they would be glad to replace it, just return the defective one first, then I emailed back and said I really could not afford to pay up front for return shipping as it would have been over $25 for certified mail with signature confirmation and asked if they could just go ahead and send a replacement including a pre-paid postage label to return the defective one. They replied and said that was fine and said they would test the replacement before sending it.

I just received the replacement yesterday and will do a review on it if not today then probally within a few days, but I will say I am very pleased with the replacement.

They did not include a pre-paid return postage label for the defective one so I guess they felt it was not worth the expense, but I'll email them later to let them know I did not get that label so I assume they did not want the defective one back.

From what I read before I ordered from them, LED Shoppe seemed to have had many positive comments about their 50mw green lasers as well as good customer service, their good customer service has now proved true from my experience of them honoring their promise to send a tested replacement, and hopefully as far as the defective lasers some have been getting recently, hopefully it was just a bad batch from the manufacturer rather than a change in the quality of the lasers they had previously been known for selling.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean.

However I mailed them recently and I'd like everyone to know that I received a brand new one free of charge about 3 days after the first. I have no idea how they mailed it so quickly. Perhaps they were having a lot of complaints about them. They may have pre-empted the complaint and sent another one straight afterwards.

The second one is definitely 50mW.

Well done LEDShoppe.

Nice to hear some companies get customer service right, even for items at bargain prices. Do the replacement units still have the unusually large beam diameter?

Wow, so you are saying they sent a free replacement without you first emailing them to let them the the first one was defective ?

.....now THAT would be REALLY good customer service, if a company sent replacements without first being notified a defective one was received perhaps simply because they found out they got a bad batch from the manufacturer. (it would be interesting to know if that was the case)

Edited to add this:
After reading your post again, I think it is that you did email them first but you were surprised at the fast receipt of the replacement so maybe they had been anticipating getting complaints from a bad batch and had some ready to mail ?

The 50mw LED Shoppe replacement I got has a noticeably thicker beam than the 5mw green eBay laser I have now so from that point of reference I would say so.

Yes, it is good to give credit where credit is due and LED Shoppe seems to be proving that they do indeed believe it is very important to have good customer service ! :D

Well, kudos for ledshoppe then. I like those fat-beamed 50 mW's they carry. Not good for burning, but they have decent divergence, especially for their price.

I honestly don't think that any company would send out replacements before even getting an e-mail but shipping from china takes a long time. It was here within like, 3 days. That's super fast. I just wasn't sure if it was possible which is why I assumed that they automatically sent it.

The laser I got as a replacement is actually 50mW I think. I don't have the means to test it and I'm not really bothered. It shows up a really nice beam in the night sky. Not as much as I'd like to have though. It's just a neat laser to have in your pocket.

I'm now looking to buy a genuine green laser with an output of true 150mW or above. They give the best beams in the sky. Which is what most people find amazing about laser pointers. Everyone I've shown it to likes the beam the best. They are mostly scared when I show them balloons popping with the red one lol.

The first one I got from them, I estimate it was 30mW for the first couple of seconds then dropped to 1mW. Was so dim.

The new one starts at around 30mW. Then brightens after a couple of seconds. I can tell the difference. The replacement is a slightly shorter unit. Haven't tried popping a balloon with it but that's what the red one is for. :D

I have looked on the forum but I can't find a genuinely high powered green laser pointer that I trust yet. If anyone can give me a link to a good backed up one. That would be awesome. I get paid again in January. I'm getting a class 4 then.

Interesting, I wonder if they just started getting some from a new source and that might be a possible reason for the replacement you just got being slightly shorter.

I just checked to be sure and the replacement I got has the same outward appearance of the original and also seems to be exactly identical in size as the original, but with a BIG difference in power over the weak defective original.

I'm tempted to ask if I buy from them (which seems likely) to test my one specifically, I'll note that I have read reports of them sending dodgy ones, hopefully if they realise that I'll complain if it's not up to spec they'll just send me a good one first time around

It couldn't hurt to email them first and ask before you order (and remind them when you order).

They sometimes took a few days to reply to my emails so if they don't reply the same day it is not unusual.

I think their official policy on their web site stated that they will replace defective units if you return them first so I can't guarantee they will do like they did for me and others in the past and send a replacement without paying to return the defective one first, so keep that in mind.

Hopefully if you remind them when you order they will make sure the one they send you is not defective so you can avoid the hassle of waiting for a replacement.

(those defective ones that are way under spec might be good for people anyone knows who might be better off with, or not need, a higher power one)

I have exactly the same problem. I ordered 3 Keychain 20mW and not one is working.

Email LED Shoppe and let them know your problem, they had usually been slow in replying so it might take a few days to hear back from them.

I can't guarantee they will send a replacement without sending the defective one back because that was the stated policy on their web site unless it has changed, but they did send a free replacement to me for a 50mw green without sending the defective one back when I explained it would cost too much for a certified type of delivery with signature confirmation to return the defective one.

So it wouldn't hurt to ask if they will send a free replacement for your defective one without having to pay to ship the defective one back.

It doesn't hurt to try because LEDShoppe did send me a replacement for a defective laser without having to pay to send back the defective one.

If they are as slow as they were in the past answering emails then don't be surprised if it takes as much as 4 days to get a reply back from them.

(even though they were slow answering most of my emails, at least it did end up with them sending a free replacement for the defective one :-)

Ok, i try'd it. Almost two weeks ago and no answer.

Well, unless the quality of their customer service has really went down from back when they resolved my complaint, there is a chance it could be a simple case of them not getting your email.

I would not give up after sending just one email, I would foward the last one back to them again and add that you still have not received a reply after two weeks.
