Can anyone steer me to the appropriate source for the actual laws governing the sale, use, and ownership of lasers in the U.S. ? I woulda thought that on New Years' Eve - when I was surrounded by police (curious, not arresting me !) when I was shining my Nexus at the Tower Of Americas here in San Antonio - that I would have been spoken to about my use of the laser, rather than just clapped on the back, and told, AWESOME - I want one of those ! I may have simply been lucky, but I would really like to know the actual law regarding lasers.
 





21 CFR 1040.10 and 1040.11 are what you want to go look up for some fun bedtime reading. As for Texas, the only state law I find in the code is that you can't knowingly point them at peace officers, or something of that sort.
