I'd send it back mate 51mw is rediculous and i can only imagine your poor face when you see the reading on your meter :o

Well, nuthin I can really do about it at this point - I bought it second hand, so shame on me for trying to save a few bucks ! I was considering sending the lasercheck to Coherent to be calibrated after I log all the results first - then compare them with a freshly calibrated set of readings...

What kind of meter do you have? What does it cost and where can a person get one?

I assume you mean the Lasercheck?  Wow! A bit much for a casual user! How does it work exactly? :o

I don't have one but Senkat does and i'm sure he'll help you on this...

Yup - Coherent Lasercheck. It's handheld - you set the wavelength, then move the switch to the other side, where it measures the output power, and shine the laser at the sensor. It gives you a digital readout of the power level at the pre-specified wavelength. It works REALLY well - and you can sometimes lucck into them on Ebay for cheaper than the $355.00US pricetag. I have seen some go as low as $90.00 !!! I DO offer measuring services though - if you pay for two-way shipping, send me your laser - I will test it for you, even film the test if you like, and return it. I know not everybody can own one of these - but it is fun to know EXACTLY what your output power is !
