Hey guys,
After some delays I can finally review my Laserbtb 405nm 750mW laser found here! Out of the first two batteries that I ordered, one was defective so I had to wait until more batteries came.
Experience with the Company
Dealing with laserbtb was a little worrying (that point where you are not sure if you are going to receive your items or not) but it turned out ok in the end. I ordered my laser on August 18th (Sunday) after emailing Kevin with some questions. He did tell me that he could lpm the laser before sending, but he never did. Not going to give negative rep over that since it would just be a bonus, but it still kinda stinks - I don't have a LPM
After a week and a half I hadn't heard anything from the company. I checked on the website and the laser was still "in production, 3-4 days normally" as it had been since August 19th, one day after ordering. I emailed them asking for the status of my order on August 28th (Wednesday) and received no response for two days, so I emailed them again Friday the 30th. I finally got a response later that day "we got the order, and we are busy these datys" word for word. I also... got a package on my doorstep when the mail came !~!!!! It was my laser!! On laserbtb's website it still said in production for another week.. oh well.
Shipping
Not going to go into a big deal since most people will just want to want to see the beam shots Standard dhl box in a bag, inside the box was some bubble wrap to prevent shock and a decent case inside. I prefer this kind of case to the belt clip type that I got with my last laser.
Opened the case...
The laser
It came with 4 keys, and a slot in the case for a battery. I had batteries on the way, since I knew that it wouldn't include them. I love the design, it's very sleak and it has a nice weight to it.
The body is made out of aluminum, I have no idea what the heatsink is but the duty cycle is stated @ 5-10 minutes on, 1 minute off. I haven't gone near that since I don't think it is accurate. The threadings on the battery cap are quite easy to use (new edit, the threadings deteriorate quickly if you are not extremely careful), and I like that it has a wrist strap. The laser takes 2x16340 batteries to run.
Safety Measures
My laser features 4 safety measures (I include not having batteries as one of them, since I always remove them when not in use). It has a shudder at the front - a rotation of the very front head will easily open this up. To focus the laser, there is a thicker section at the front that you can twist. It is pre-focussed to infinity. It has a key required, in the center there is an arrow. When it is facing forward the laser is armed, when it is facing to the side it is not armed. Assuming there are battereies inside, the shutter is open, and the laser armed... push the red button and it turns on! I really like the button, it is easy to to press. I would only be worried about having it roll and press by accident against the table or something, but thats what the other safety measures are for
Beam Shots
Luke Skywalker
Me trying to write LPF in our cul-de-sac, stole this idea from someone elses beam shots
End notes
Overall Satisfaction: Very good
I really like the laser. I plan to LPM it sometime, my brother might be able to help out with that (he works in engineering). It has a nice beam, not as bright or as visible as my Crown Upgrade 532nm 400mW from O-like, but it certainly has excellent burning capabilities. Easily melts black plastic, lights matches instantly, burns wood, lights white paper on fire. It is comfortable to hold, and the increased safety measures from my last laser is quite nice. I would definitely recommend this to other people, skylasers really followed through despite their slowness in updating the website.
I haven't been very good at doing beam shots despite having done photography for over 7 years, it's probably because I need a tripod for my laser. If anyone has a suggestion for one that is inexpensive, let me know in the responses It doesn't have to be big, it can be small! Just something to keep it still would be nice.
Hope you all liked my review!
