i am setting up a laser trip sensor and need to project a beam for 300 yards outdoors, will be on 24 hours a day. i have tried a cheapo keychain red laser which lasts about 2 days and then gets very dim. any suggestions on a good red diode for this use. it is not a battery issue, i have a power supply.

LPC-815. Run it at low power and install a good heatsink. Should continue to shine forever i.e. 100% duty cycle.

You don't even need a sensor at the other end coz the LPC will slice the intruder's limbs off on contact :p

You can use a "cheapo keychain red laser" with a small heat sink....
Don't supply more than 5.0Volts to that Red Laser... You will blow it...
Use a 5V positive regulator like the LM7805 and supply the regulator
with >7.5VDC from your Power Supply...
(I've done this on numerous occasions)

BTW....
