I was putting my Christmas tree together just then and when i turned on its light (its one of those optical fiber decorated ones) i found that the bulb driving all the fibers was blown. So i shone my dvd diode into the base where all the fibers are bundled and 
red tree. Unfortunately, the ~200mw doesnt really shine the same as the 20W bulb which it replaced.
Now I have a question about optical fibers. How much energy loss can I expect through about 1m and will the beam specs be the same when the laser exits the fiber.
