what causes the weird galaxy effect around a laser dot? i got some lasers and they did not have it at first but it randomly grew and now it looks more like the milky way galaxy...bright in middle with fading haze effect around it... is this caused by water or dirt? i blew on the lenz with an keyboard compressed air cleaner...but that did not get rid of it

I'll bet it is just dirt that has slowly accumulated on the lens. Get a LensPen and see if that will clean it up. If you don't want to buy one, try a cotton swab and alcohol.

Dirty lens, and the laser beam being being reflected by the dirt particles.

Use compressed air to clean the lens. If that doesn't work a lens cleaning kit is best, but any microfiber towel, dabbed in isopropyl alcohol will work, or even dry, if it's just dust.

Fun trick to try with a cheaper laser 100mW+ green is best... clean the lens first, then in the dark blow on it.

You will have a very dense as you call it "galaxy effect" but with a semi powerful laser, as the moisture from your breath evaporates the halo will decrease in size:)
