Hello,
I'm new here and new to the subject - I need your help guys.
I'm willing to pay for complete ready to go system.
What I'm looking for is;

I'm looking for laser proximity "fence" alert.
100 feet distance 12 volt.
I guess what I'm looking for is a laser - transmitter - receiver and alarm when someone cross the beam. Maybe some mirrors to make a triangle
I don't have "brains" to design and make this work  
I'm willing to pay for a complete system

I finally got my set up (Laser - security - proximity alert) what is the best way to power it.
For the receiver battery pack (D, C) with some enclosure - waterproof same for the laser.
I don't really want to use 110 - 12v. wall charger.
Any ideas or any parts available you guys have
Here are some pics of the set up - I didn't do it it was done for me. I hope that person will not to get to mad when I post his work.
If yes SORRY.
Anyway I need something to power this thing up.

As you already have the setup - I moved this to the experiments and mods section - hope you don't mind ! It looks good, though - I would say if wall power is not avaiable, if the current drain is not too high, and it can take the juice - run it off a car battery - BUT you better check with the maker to see if it can handle that many amps first !
 
I don't care you moving it.....
This weekend if I don't have to work I will try it. Just that mod. laser to 12 volts ???? how long this will last ?

I really have no idea, as I do not know how efficient he/she made the module - I really would wait until you hear from the maker, though - car batteries put out a LOT of amps - could fry the whole thing instantly - and that would be bad. Not to mention if it shorted out the battery itself - I don't think you want battery acid exploding everywhere, do you ?
 
Voltage and not Amps are your concern. if your module and laser will accept 12v then it should only draw as much current as it needs to function (as long as there is no short circuit, as Senkat said) a decent sized lead acid battery can deliver over 600 amps if shorted, so your wires and circuits would be melted in seconds.
A small red module will take no more than 60 ma so a fully charged battery will last you several weeks.

You can work out the current draw quite easily using a multimeter to measure the resistance of the circuit and using Ohms law
V= IR (I is Current or amps) transposed to work out Amps would be I =V over R . so use a multimeter to work out the resistance of your circuit, take that value, and take your known voltage value and voila, you have your current draw.

So I guess using older wall charger will be the easiest way of doing it---- ;)
or I will have to get some kind of housing to put batteries in - ( for 12 volts it will be kind of big tho ) -  :o

How about 9 volt battery and 2 X 1.5 batteries all hook up. will this work ??
