Cryogenic Sonoluminescence

Heh. I was chatting to someone about this the other day.

Wonder if this would work with a >1W pulsed infrared laser?

If so then it raises the interesting possibility of building a SL cell which works immediately without the annoyance of having to carefully ramp up power, place a bubble etc.

My limited understanding is that sonoluminescence uses ultrasound to generate extreme pressure fluctuations, which cause tiny bubbles to expand and collapse, releasing energy in the form of light. Not sure how you can do this with a laser; what is your approach?

It was to generate the initial bubble in the first place, to avoid using radio-isotopes etc.
