Laser diode socket to BNC

Hello all,

For my research I need to mount a laser diode ( 5.6mm ) into a collimation tube ( Thorlabs ). But, I find it very difficult and messy to solder the laser diode socket pins to +ve and -ve terminals of a wire which has a BNC ( F ) at the other end.

is there any other way than soldering, for example can I use jumper wires ?

If soldering is the only option, please tell me what kind of soldering iron should I purchase. The tip size , solder wire etc.

You need good connection, and possibly high current (you did not state power of your diode). Soldering is only way to go.

I use common pen-style solder iron. Diode's pin are no different from transistor, resistor, or any other small part. If you can't do, just practice for a while on something cheaper.

Get a male BNC connector, and solder a pair of wires from the diode to the connector. Simple as.

The laser diode power ranges from 30mW to 110 mW.

I know we have to connect a BNC to the diode, but soldering the wires to the diode is the main problem I face with.

I shall try using pen type soldering iron and shall post my reply then.
