laser diode death

hello i have a question
i got that home made laser driver and 16x laser diode
it was working fine like 4 month with lipo battry 2 cells total of 7.2v
and i tought about connecting it to a Transformer of 8v
and so i did
well my question is why my laser diode died after 1 min of using it.
and it didnt get hot with the Transformer

transformers can have huge voltage swings and spikes, depending on the load. My guess is that the load wasn't big enough, or your driver's capacitors weren't big enough to sufficiently suppress those spikes from the diode.

I never trusted those things that much anyways....
