Hello lads,I know the diameter of a laser beam effects burning capabilities... but does beam divergence matter too? I am a bit confused about beam divergence and what it means exactly.

Can anyone help! Thanks

Beam divergence in the amount a laser beam's diameter gets bigger the farther
away from the laser that you get.

For burning....
the smaller the diameter of the laser's beam.... the more
cocentrated the available power.... like using a magnifying glass with the
sun's rays...

BTW... doing a search and reading the threads/post would have given you this info... ::)

Hi there, we actually wrote a small article on these terms, you can find the article here:

In general, there is an inverse relationship between beam diameter and divergence. That is, if your laser pointer has a very small beam diameter at aperture, the divergence is going to be relatively high. Hope this helps and welcome to the forum!
