ITP A3 SS AAA Q5 3 mode . List price $29.89 @ Lightake.com [ Sept 13 2010 ]
This is the stainless steel version of the A3 , I've always wanted a stainless flashlight as well a ITP A3 , so I thought why not combine the two .
Some pictures to entertain you :

First of , nothing to complain about , lets just get that out of the way . This seems to be the new version , Lo - Medium - High , rather than the older Medium - lo - High ... It really worries me not the order of the modes , either way is fine with me ... Everything appears to be well done , the threads are nice , there is just the right amount of resistance in the twist action when changing modes or turning on the light , and no issues or glitching , very nice .
Lets get on to the performance of this little light .

Rechargeable AAA = Lo - 0.04A / 2-3Lumen , Medium - 0.35A / 23Lumen , High - 0.79A / 78Lumen
Alkaline AAA = Lo - 0.04A / 2-3Lumen , Medium - 0.31A / 24Lumen , High - 0.8A / 85Lumen
Dry Cell AAA = Lo - 0.04A / 2-3Lumen , Medium - 0.38A / 23Lumen , High - 0.78A / 70Lumen
Lithium AAA = Lo - 0.03A / 2-3Lumen , Medium - 0.25A / 25Lumen , High - 0.85A / 90Lumen

10440 @ 3.84volts = Lo - 0.02A / 2-3Lumen , Medium - 0.19A / 45Lumen , High - 1A / 230Lumen Not recommended !

I have to say that I am very happy with the performance on a AAA battery , and I really don't feel the need for 10440 use [ but you may feel different ] . I didn't use a more fully charged 10440 for testing as I don't have one charged above 3.84v , but I think the reader will get a good idea of the expected performance from my results .

Body = Well made , I havent made up my mind about stainless steel yet , seems a little cold and smooth ! I dont mind the extra mass of the steel VS aluminum , it actually feels ???? more substantial , maybe more sturdy .
LED = Q5 XP-E , this one is virtually perfectly centered in the reflector [ check out the picture ] , in such a small finicky light , I expect it might be a little difficult to get every single last one perfectly centered , this one is though , perhaps lucky me ?
Threads = Nice and cleanly cut , smooth in operation , Stainless Steel does seem to feel differently to aluminum though , so don't be put of by SS to SS .
Clip = Very nice , good tension , and looks to be sturdy enough to handle the extra weight of the Stainless steel .
10440 = Not recommended by the manufacturer , protected cells may be to long and not work , my protected cell was to long , and I had to use a unprotected 10440 .
Key Chain = When Ive looked at the pictures of the A3 on the net , the key chain always looked a little cheesy , if not a little un-sturdy .. Only time will tell , but it looks to be a reasonably good unit [ key chain ] and should be able to handle the A3 just fine .
Beam = Very nice beam , above average ...

Im not really sure I like Lithium batteries , there expensive , and there seems to be a bit sag , starting voltage was something like 1.8v but quickly sagged to 1.56v with use , maybe thats normal ? [ Never used Lithium before ] As the voltage sagged so did the output , if you ran high for over 30 seconds , the output normalized around 80 lumen . Nothing rechargeable cells cant do , but if your a international jet setter ? they might make sense . Unfortunately , are the Lithiums Expensive [ nearly $20 for a 4 pack ] , or is the ITP just incredible value for your hard earned dollar ? When you can almost buy a ITP for the price of a 4 pack of AAA cells , I would have to wonder why everyone hasn't got at least one ITP in there collection .

Bottom line = a wonderful little light at a affordable price point .. Haven't you got one yet ?

Beamshots Tonight ! 10440
