Hi guys, i found this laser while looking on ebay for bargain diodes, do you think that it's legit? It seems like it is.

Things are typically legit from that seller. Either way, at that price it cannot hurt to try it/.

I'm not really sure on what the 'legit' part of it would be.

The specs state output power of 5 mW but current consumption of 500 mA at 7.4 volts.

These diodes are not that inefficient, so one of those figures must be wrong, or it is dissipating a shitload of power in something other than the laser diode.

I'm not sure which is wrong though, guess the only way to figure that out is ordering one. I sort of suppose both are wrong at it will take a lower current AND produce more than 5 mW, but that's just hope ;)

When I brought this exact laser up in the internet finds thread, inquiries were made to the seller and they said they test the power of them and they typically output 10mW using the 0Sr4m plt510 diode.

Was going to order one myself but ordered a more expensive laser and an lpm instead...
Plus right now is a VERY bad time of year to order from china due to their lunar new year's celebrations/festivals which shut down everything for them.

At that price I would say take one for the "Forum Team":) and let us know??

So how about the current consumption then? Those diodes take something like 120 mA right, nothing near the quoted 500 mA. Even with losses in the driver that seems a bit far off, but then again, the 500 mA could just be a maximum figure that isn't really reached.

I would buy it but i don't have LPM and since I bought a 3d printer I'm a little broke, however I can try to build a yellow or white laser with 3d printed parts. But I might pick it up next month.
