Hello.

Recently I have taken on the ambitious task of building my own laser. However, I have never attempted such a project.

I have an engineering degree, so I am not completely lacking when it comes to technical skills (and
knowing related terminology).

I also own a high powered 100 mW green laser, so I am not completely new to high powered lasers.

With this project, I hope to install a Class IV laser (blue or ultraviolet, > 1W), into a flashlight with a pistol grip.

Currently, I am thinking of installing a 1W 445nm Blue Laser Module with a Microboost driver into one of these flashlights:

Is this laser module compatible with these flashlights? If not, what is a better combination of laser module + flashlight for this project (that is also cost effective)?

Also, what other materials will I need? Will I need any sort of heat sink? And if I need to connect or solder any wires, what specific type of wires will I need?

And where could I find the best tutorials geared at beginners for such a project? I have mostly been watching Kipkay's videos on YouTube.

An answer to my queries would be appreciated.

What kind of heatsink and type of wire would I need for such a project?

Also, I do realize I also need a driver circuit, too.

Any heatsink will do, the bigger the longer run times and copper is much better than aluminum. You can run near any diode in that flashlight you just need an appropriate driver for it. You'll have to size the heatsink and driver current based on the power you want and how long you want to run it for. Your budget will be a big factor is this aswell in how it turns out.

It's hard to make recommendations without more specific details on how your planning to use it. Here to help though :)
