I'm new to this site I found it while surfing along. I'm brand new to lasers and I'm looking forward to expand my knowledge with this site!! I'm on the market to buy my first laser and pointers on what to go with would be greatly appreciated!!!

Im new to! :) first off what do you want brightness or burning? im buying a 150mW 532nm (green) its the brightest dot/beam. and im also going to buy a 2w blue laser which is the best imo for burning! REMEMBER WEAR GOGGLES WITH 5mW+ laser

EDIT: 1W travels 85+ miles i do believe and a 150mW can dominate 4 miles

well WELL !! look what we have here ! another guy that believes that a high powered 2W 445 laser is the best and great for burning!!.......:gun:
WELL !! it certainly....AT THAT POWER ...ANY LASER CAN BURN!! :) but if i were you i will be looking to buy a 405nm laser:eg: ! NOW THATS THE WAY TO GO FOR BURNING !!
405nm lasers are the best burners out there (except for IR OR UV ) lets say for an instance that you buy a 500mW 445nm laser and a 400mW 405nm laser ...the 405nm laser will burn the crap out of the 445nm....i can even say that a 300mW will burn better than the 500mW 445nm .... simply because of the wavelength absorption of the materials ! 405nm is greatly absorb by almost any material ! thus making it the best for burning !!!!
PLEASE IF YOU ARE NEW BUY SOME GOGGLES NOW !! ALSO, I WOULD RECOMMEND YOU NOT BUY FROM WICKEDLASERS!!
ONE MORE THING ....because 405nm lasers have such a short wavelength, it travels faster than any of the wavelengths above it ... making it great for burning! ...:(sadly is not that visible as a 532nm laser but if you get a high powered one i would say around 200mW + you will be able to see the beam at night ..so they are there is just that you dont see them ...>_<:thanks::na:
445nm lasers are more visible than 405nm ..but if you really want a burning power machine...get a 405nm one (:

And, 405nm can be focused to a smaller spot.

And, 405nm doesn't travel faster than any other wavelength of el. mag. spectrum. They all travel at c= around 300,000km/s in vacuum. However, that slightly changes in other mediums, but the difference in negligible in atmosphere.

Burning basically always boils down to power density, whichever laser can achieve higher power density... will burn better.

i have heard this before but iv never been around a purp so i wouldnt know :/

I have an overspec 5mw+ 405nm pen that stings the skin I was surprised. BTW don't burn yourself its not at all good...
