I can't tell if my laser is an IR or a red diode.

I just harvested around 4 diodes from 1 drive and i found a weird flat one. I didn't want to hook it up to a power supply because i might burn it out but here are some puctures

These pictures are taken from my digital microscope so they seem large but it is 3mmX9mmX8mm
 





That is probably an IR diode. Red diodes from a DVD RW is usually goldish and looks more like a diode. I have not seen a Red diode with a black outside. BTW where did you buy your digital microscope? it looks nice I want one too. Where can i buy one?

IR diode? how much current should i run it at?
