HP G60-230US Laptop DVD burner?

Hey guys so I have this old HP laptop that I no longer use and I am pretty sure it has a DVD burner in it. I looked up the specs for this model and it said it has a "lightscribe super multi 8x DVD +- R/RW with double layer support" drive. I am wondering if the diode in this would be strong enough to burn and/or would be worth making a decent laser out of. Thanks for the help!

8x red diode, 15-40mW at best. Not really a powerful burning laser but worth the harvest , good learning!

What about the LightScribe? Doesn't LightScribe use a laser to burn images into the label side of the disc?
