How long did it take before you started DIY's?

I joined in February and started building 2-3 months later, but then again I already had a lot of experience with electronics. The learning process will be different for everyone. I got interested in building from the kipkay video but found the forum while searching for reviews of green lasers. After I joined the forum I picked up some blu-ray diodes with the LM317 kit and built a blu-ray. I'm looking forward to building some more .

I haven't, but I really want to after joining this forum afew days ago.

I have no equipment whatsoever, I plan on buying a soldering iron/station, some precision screwdrivers and components of a laser soon. Just when I have enough cash. Well I do now, just not sure whether I want to spend so much money on one thing. Looks like I need a job.
