Hi, I have never built a DIY laser before but I do have experience with strong laser pointers, electronics, soldering and LEDS. I would like to build a green laser pointer from parts for as cheaply as possible. I know I need a host, diode, driver, module, heatsink and battery. For the diode I am looking at nichia NDG 7475 OR similar Sharp diode. I have a host from a broken "chinese gatling gun" laser. I think a good driver is laseerer SXD V3. I can find TO5 9mm module and heatsink on Ebay. For battery the host can take 1 18650 or 2 16340. Everything together would cost me around $100 which is much cheaper than Sanwu challenger2 or striker.
Now for me the real question is this. How do I press fit and assemble the diode without damage. How do I protect it from static? How do I set the driver current without risking frying the LD?
If someone replies that would be very helpful for me
