I got this diode out of a 20x Lite-on Dvd burner along with the red diode. I want to make it into a laser too, but i can't figure out a way to get it out without damaging it. Any suggestions on how to get this out?

The picture from the front didn't show but i can see that its an open can.

Also if anyone could identify the little lens/crystal thing on the front. I could possibly get the diode out but it would damage/destroy this. So unsure if i want to do that yet.

Yes I'm aware of the dangers of IR, having bought a cheap green laser and read about it. I just wanted to make it to use with IR night-vision. Similar to IR laser sights the military uses with night-vision. So i would only be testing or using this from behind a headset display.

Ok, that's good to know, and for getting the diode out, you can try to use the dowel technique you used on the other 5mW diodes.

hi chido can you help me in my other thread, how to extract the BRLD in LG 4x bluray burner, thanks.

Well this one is enclosed in the front as seen in the pictures, and the tiny hole there is covered by a small glass square. And looking inside i can't see any surface that looks safe to push on. I tried prying on it from the back but i broke my little screwdriver :d.

i dont think that is open can its a heatsink as chido said try removing the glue from the back of the LD

Oh, yeah I forgot to mention that. That's not an open can diode. It's just a windowless diode.

I seem to have my terminology wrong then. I've seen the windowed ones, so what Exactly is a Open can diode and a Windowless diode?

The glue on the back seems to have only been there for fun. Couldn't get it out even with screwdriver after removing the glue(screwdriver broke).

Would you please stop posting in other threads asking people to help you in your threads? We all see your posts and if we can help you, should know by now we will. Very few of us (me included) have any knowledge of BR burner diode extraction. Thank you!

would you give the part number of the lite-on drive you broke? in the past i also opened one /LH-20A1P/, but the IR diode was flat frame-type. its housing had the same shape, though.

An open can diode is like the other one you got out, with no silver can or window, it's NAKED :o

And a windowless diode has the silver can, but it doesn't have the little plastic window other diodes have at the aperture. I think all windowless diodes are IR, but I'm not 100% sure.
