help with buying a host for dvd burner laser

im planing on getting one of the pre-installed diodes from stonetek. but i don't know what kind of housing i should use. ive been looking alot and i cant make up my mind.

i want a good one thats cheap and easy to install. like for under $20 maybe. but not one that might burn out the laser like a maglight.

any suggestions like maybe from DX or something?
 





yah, i figured i would get one of those but i was just wondering if there were any cheaper ones that were still good.
 
thats exactly what i used, chido! they are actually pretty cool... they make ur laser look like a lab laser!
 
Yeah, I think I'll get the one that measures (4x2x1) since I want the laser to be as small as possible.
 
if i get one of those i have to make a driver and stuff right? and its not very pocket sized. but if it was easier to do that then a flashlight one then i might do it.
 
yah, those are pretty good. i think the easiest and cheapest would be the mini mag one but it might break.
what are the chances of it breaking? and is there any way of reducing the chances without using a driver?
 
When you say breaking, you mean killing your diode, right? If so then I think you could fit a capacitor and a resistor in there. That should give you better protection than just running it straight from the battery.
 
a capacitor and a resister would be pretty good. and would one of those drivers fit in a mini mag?
 
Bottom line - you aren't gonna get good insurance for your expensive diode if u put it in a maglite. No my driver won't fit, but neither will anything that actually protects your diode.

If you want a good laser that lasts more than a week, don't do the maglite mod.
