I would say you got incredibly lucky, as that could have gone sideways on you fast. Many people who have tried to remove a broken window from a laser diode have failed. Hopefully, this won't decrease the life of the diode. And a lesson learned.
I'd rather have a diode with a sharp and clear dot and full output power with a decreased life then one with a fuzzy dot and reduced output power because of a damaged laser diode window, that has a little longer life. That's why I did try it. And luckily I succeeded.
