Help: Laser won't turn on

I have a 445nm CNI PGL-III-C laser. For some reason, the laser does not turn on anymore. When you push in the push button, it gets stuck and te only way to have to come out, is to unscrew the battery cap.

I bought a new set of batteries and ran a multimeter on the old and new batteries and they are both showing 3V for each battery.

How am I suppose to fix this. The batteries have power but i dont know how to troubleshoot it further.
 





Did you by chance switch from using unprotected 18650 batteries, to protected?

Protected batteries are a bit longer, and could put more pressure on the driver/button/insides.

Pictures always help also.

They take 2x CR123 batteries that are rated for 3V. My old batteries still have ~ 2.7V in them each and this problem started randomly (i think it may have dropped onto the carpet floor?) I bought a new set of batteries which are exactly the same as I bought before but the exact same thing happens. I can take a video but all it would show is me pushing the pushbutton and the button becoming stuck :\
 
Im confused. What would battery voltage have to do with the power button sticking.

Excatly how does the switch stick? Does it press in too far and get stuck inside the body? Or is the switch housing pushed too far forward causing friction on the forward side of the switch? ( did that make sense?)
 
At this point you're probably better off getting in touch with some of the forum builders, to see if they can take a look at it.

In some cheaper I experience battery related problems, using protected vs unprotected, that's why I was wondering.
 
Can you take it apart? Mine is an 808 version, but I expect yours is put together the same.
If you remove the finned head from the body, now you should be able to unscrew the retaining ring. Then hold the button down while using a rod push the module out the front.

Is your spring broken?

I am not going to take it apart myself, i would rather have someone do it for me.
 
Its not that difficult. I took mine apart in a matter of seconds just to take that picture for you.:na:

It's putting it back together that is challenging.

unscrew finned head and tail cap


unscrew retaining ring


depress button so that it recesses into body, at the same time push from battery side


assembly should slide out


now you can inspect and troubleshoot easily



The only difficult part during re assembly is getting the button past the internal threads. To make it easier you can cut a "shoehorn" out of a thin aluminum can.
 
Mine does. It was tough to break the threads loose the first time, but I don't think there was any thread locker or anything.
