Haven't been here in a long time so just saying hello. I have recently noticed very affordable yellow DPSS lasers on the scene now. What change of circumstances lead to this? For so long one of the only makers of these as far as I knew was CNI laser and due to the complexity and lack of mainstream applications they eventually stopped making portables like my DL Spartan 589nm. Did someone else create a new type or make some new discovery or manufacturing technique to create these new yellow modules and for so cheap? Just curious. Here are some images of my 50mW (112mW peak) Spartan. She averages over 90mW of beautiful 589nm golden yellow. Happy lasing and have a great weekend everyone! 1000006537.jpg1000006536.jpg9mLg2I3.jpegNYhRP8p.jpege49mS6u.jpeg93jGyVP.jpeg

Welcome back! Nice shots of that Spartan btw. I still have mine as well as the lower power Aurora.

Its a bit of a mystery why DPSS yellow modules suddenly reappeared cheap as chips. Especially as out of the two DPSS's (589 vs 593.5nm). 593.5nm were always less stable, less efficient, more expensive and harder to obtain. And it's actually them that's now popped up. And the 589's now are hard to get hold of. Completely backwards to what would have been expected.

They are mislabelled at 591nm. But they are SFD Nd:YVO4 (1064+1342). The good thing about these modules I have found is the don't seem to mode hop like 593.5's used to be prone to. But they are very temperature dependent.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I am confused as well with the current development and with the 593.5nm modules being what has reappeared. I would have also expected it to be the 589nm variant. But sounds like a win for yellow admirers for sure. 🍻

Absolutely. I missed out on the CNI 593.5's pens when they were available. I've wanted a portable one to go alongside my Spartan/Aurora for a long while. Some years back I did get lucky by buying a 50mW lab unit from a Russian so the wavelength wasn't foreign no more. But that made me want a portable in it more. Just it was far too expensive at the time.

I was looking at Tinker's 591-P 30mW pen-style to add another wavelength to my collection. I assume this is actually 593.5nm which I would prefer anyway. And if it is anything like my 589nm it won't like being cold so I would imagine the pen host would be advantageous and I don't need long duty cycles so I am not concerned about heat dissipation. So if the current drama around his backlog subsides and he makes everything right, I will probably grab one.

Sweet, welcome back to the forum! Yeah they are actually 593.5, I got one right when they appeared, the golden yellow is one of my favorite wavelengths. I used to have a 5mW 593.5 from Dragon Xasers waay back, but I stupidly sold it. Regretted that for years when the yellows suddenly became rare. Boy was I relieved to see them come back.

Thanks! Yeah, when I had the chance to acquire the spartan 50 589 long ago, I had to do it and so glad I did because now they are so hard to find. And when I recently saw yellows being sold for stupid cheap I was baffled as to how and why. But adding 593.5 was my other big want after the 589 because these are my favorite colors but I am sure 589 will stay my favorite. 🍻

Welcome back to the LPF. You should see the 575nm lasers as well. More of a lemon yellow color. I have one that measures 574nm. It is far less orange than the 593.5nm ones.
Thanks! I have seen that wavelength as well and it is on my radar. I will probably go 593.5nm first because I really love both the 589 and 593.5 and I have wanted a 593.5 to go along with my 589 for a long time. But the lemon yellow does have my attention as well. 🍻

Yeah, even the 589nm ones are far more orange than the 575nm ones.

I gotta own a yellow laser one day like your 589nm wavelength!
Anyways, great pictures and welcome back to LPF 🖐️🖐️
Thanks! Well, if you are wanting to add yellow to your collection, now is the best time I have ever seen to do so. I am still shocked that you can get 593.5nm for so cheap. But I love my 589nm, like holding a ray of sunshine in your hand. You won't be disappointed when you get any of these wavelengths. 🍻
