Hello, i am fede, from italy, now i am living in america. I have really liked the laser pointer since i was a child.
I really would like a laser with at least power to burn matches.
Right now i have 3 lasers: 100mw green, 532nm, and 2 reds of 5mw and 20mw.
I have bought 2 diodes of 1000mW 880nm from ebay (they are coming in the mail) and 2 laser modules.
I hope i can assemble them, i know that i have to read a lot more...

Any advice would be helpful

You don't need 1W of IR to burn a match. If you're wanting to, 200mW of red will, and one the cheapest ways to do so.
If you are going to assemble the 1W, just be careful, goggle and stuff.

Also, welcome ^o^

A Warm
to LPF

I remember you the safety glasses, especially for 808 nm ;)

I have now a 300mW 808 nm, i trayed to put this diode in a led flash lighter, but it didn't work. I followed step by step a tutorial, but nothing happened. :S:S:S.

If it is merely tinkering that you want to do, you might consider using the LM317 regulator. It can be configured to act as a voltage with a couple of resistors and can also be setup to act as a current regulator. Here is a simple calculator. Try to find a datasheet on your particular diode and follow the requirements for voltage and current as well as temperature. You should also make sure that the diode is properly pressed and mounted in a case that fits its form factor. This might be a good way to be sure your diode is not broken or faulty. When running a high powered diode such as the one mentioned, a heat sink should be used especially for long durations and at high currents. The light from the 808nm diode should be slightly visible but mostly invisible, so don’t be fooled if it does not seem bright and don't forget to wear IR rated safety goggles as well!
