Green laser lost power

Hi guys. I recently purchased a 50mw laser from O-like and it just shipped in. After using it for about ten minutes the beam suddenly became very dull. The change was almost instant as if the drop in output was triggered by something. I tried completely charging the battery and sill no luck. Is this a common problem and if so is there any way to fix it, or do I have a faulty product that needs to be returned?

Did you kept it on for 10 minutes? If so you could have damaged one or more components or the batteries are low.

Too few details to tell what the problem is.

Let it cool down and try again.

I used it for a total of about 10 minutes, not ten minutes continuously. The laser lost power yesterday afternoon so I left it alone overnight and let the battery charge. This morning it is still dull.

probably not because I used them after i woke up, at which time the charge was done. Im not sure exactly what time the battery actually stopped charging.

maybe your betterys had a blow out of power and then they blowed your laser..

You probably received a defective laser. The best thing you can do is contact O-like and tell them you want a replacement.

I have never heared of freshly charged cells blowing up a laser before. If you have a link to a thread please post because I would like to read it.

there is no post but immediately after charging the battery has more power (a 3.7 volt battery has then 4.2 volt) and if it cant take more the diode heats and blows up

That should not be a problem. The driver can handle more than 4.2V just fine.

Does the fact that the laser is momentarily bright(er) when I first press the button then it gets get dull mean anything?

I don't think you quite understand what are you talking about.

No, freshly charged batteries will not blow up your laser. It's insane. Where did you hear that?

Protected batteries do not give "limit" power. They give normal power like every other normal battery, protection circuit "protects" the battery in the event of short circuit, deep discharge or overcharge. None of which are related to normal laser operation.

Now, to the topic.

Laser suddenly cutting out power overnight? It's very strange, I never had something like that happen before, or heard of it. No idea what can possibly happen. The laser didn't fall off a table or anything like that in the meantime?

I think what he meant by "limit" is that protection circuit does not allow high current draw but it is still very unlikely because the diode only consumes around 300mA
