I have been looking around here for a while, and can't seem to find the answer I am looking for. After buying a 20mw laser from HDE(something) and being dissapointed by power, but suprised by the tightness of the beam, I figured I would put more than $8 into a pointer :P I really only want a strong beam at night, mostly star gazing. I figured a green 50mw would be about what I want, because a friends ebay greenie is around 20mw, and I'll admit; the competiveness in me wants to have something stronger. So the lasers I am looking at are: (not in any particular order)

LZTN - 532nm 50mW Smallest Green Laser Pointer

Will these be as reliable as a bigger laser? I'm kind of tired of this style of pointer, tbh.

Power Rock Green laser Torch 50mW /Focusable&Waterproof [OL-MRGL50] - $36.99 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce

I like this because it looks great and comes with a battery and charger, but I have heard some bad things aout O-like.

Silver chrome green laser 50mW/good finish [OLSGL50] - $26.99 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce

Again, kinda tired of the pen style. Also havent heard so great reviews on O-like. But for $22, it could be pretty good.

Don't like the pen style, but have heard good things about rayfoss. Also a very good price.

Not a fan of the looks, but if its actually 50mw's, seems decent.

I think I am most likely going to get the LZTN, but wanted to hear opinions. In the pen style, do I lose any functionality or reliability? And is getting a power certificate really worth $5 to anyone?
Second on list would be the O-like pen, followed by O-like Power Rock, followed by rayfoss pen.

most pen style laser tent to overheat, i would recommend that you steep away from pen style lasers ( if you want a more reliable one), also if you are getting any laser over 5mW, buy goggles for it (: in my opinion a 50mW green laser is great for star gazing maybe if you really want a strong beam go for a 100mW one. if you dont care to much about burning, get a fixed focused laser, because focusable lasers have a more divergent beam ( if thats the correct explanation ?) in the other hand, fix focused lasers are simply pointing at one direction ( you get me ? ) making them good for long distance pointing and star gazing (: hope that helps a bit ^_^

You wont have a problem with overheating, if its only 50mw. As Keiichi Tsuchiya says, Fixed focused lasers would be your best option, since you don't have to mess around with getting the focus right, etc. Definitely buy one from Lazerer. Pen-style lasers don't really have cons, except if they're at higher powers. In general, pen style lasers have momentary switches and may run out of batteries more often, since they typically use AAA batteries; that would be the only difference. It will likely be overspec if you buy it from any of those.

These are nice. It's focusable and it has a very thin beam, even when focused to infinity. I have one myself and am very pleased with it.

$33.99 - BudgetGadgets.com

If this shows as Product Not Found! then register an account and try again.

I think I have narrowed it down to these two:
www.rayfoss.com
(rayfoss links i noticed usually dont work, so here is the product code : RF532-50mW-BHP
I think its on the 3rd page of green lasers, its $23)
And this

LZTN - 532nm 50mW Smallest Green Laser Pointer

Does rayfoss have any kind of gurantee that I can get a 50mw laser? Lazerer says they test all their lasers, so I kind of am wanting that one more because I'm guranteed at least 40mw.

On the rayfoss site, it claims the pointer is >50mw, can I believe that?
Which one would be a higher quality? In terms of lasting longest.

And just a quick other question about the forum itself, is it run for a profit? I'll keep my reasons of asking to myself, I'm just curious

I would suggest Lazerer over rayfoss just out of rescent reviews I have been seeing.

The Lazerer pen is actually something I was considering buying myself. I also was looking at this one:
LZCB - CYBER 532nm 50mW Focusable Green Laser Pointer
I like the beefy 18650 power source and the clear anodized host.

I ended up deciding on being power hungry and grabbing a 300mW 523nm from laserBTB. That Lazerer is still on my list of lasers to end up getting though.

This forum is not run for profit.
