I'm hoping to buy a 50mW DX laser, but I want to protect my eyes. I already know I will need some goggles to filter the green light, but I gather the DX lasers put out a lot of IR as well. Will I need goggles to protect from the IR?

Also, could you recommend some goggles, I'm a cheapskate (that's why I'm getting the DX laser :P) so cheap goggles would be nice, but I don't want ineffective goggles (I'm only 15, I hope to have my eyesight for a lot longer...)

Thanks to anyone who can help

PS. I've ordered from DX a lot already, I know of the delivery times etc...

Some well made green lasers have an IR filter between the diode and the collimating lens so that no IR escapes, so IR may or may not be an issue...

The DX series that are less than 50mw seem to be IR filtered very well...

Beyond that power level, I wouldn't trust them...But that's just me.

Reconsider Cheap when talking about any Safety item!!
You only get one pair of eyes!

Get GOOD QUALITY GOGGLES....

I use the Wicked lasers lasershades for Green (532nm) lasers and love them.
They do a nice job filtering, yet still allow you to see the "Dot" of the beam.

I hate to send anyone to WL..but their lasershades are one product that is really very good.

The sport elites that WL sells will block too much IMHO, and you may not be able to see the dot!

I am also looking for some goggles for a green laser.

Is Wicked the only place to get quality goggles? or are there any other cheaper places?
