So i received my gearbest laser 301 532nm green. It is much brighter than the <5mw green pen I have and I like how beefy the host is; however, I'd like something with more mw. A couple years back, I had bought a laser off ebay that I could actually feel a slight burning sensation with when it was held to point on your skin. (not enough to ACTUALLY burn, just an itch feeling).

The old laser used a cr2 battery, so when I got this gearbest laser with a 18650 battery, I was expecting at least the same result which isn't the case. Can anyone point me in the right direction for what I'm looking for with a good price? I'm not looking for a super high quality one but apparently something with more mW than the gearbest 301. I remember the old laser I referred to was around 20-30$. Does one with those parameters exist anymore? I have searched a number of threads here without really a clear cut or up-to-date answer.

The search feature works great for this. Green lasers.. or any cheaper laser will always be hit or miss. Its really hard to give advice on this. Also what kind of goggles/glasses do you have? These lasers can be very dangerous!
laserbtb
dragon lasers
scifi lasers
These are just a few companies.
Feel free to pm me with any questions!
Joe!

thanks for the response joe. I have some goggles for the green I have. After searching around, it sounds like I would be better off making my own. I'm having trouble understanding what parts would fit to swap into the 301 host that I have. any advice there?

Look up a 532nm module on dealsxtreme! Thats a good start

All of the 532nm modules on Dealextreme cost more than double any of the complete Gearbest Laser 301s offered, especially in higher output powers needed to burn at all--see 532nm laser module - Free Shipping - DX
and
Taking apart a Laser 301 is not so simple/easy and require tools and some skills to do see: http://laserpointerforums.com/f44/laser-301-host-breakdown-83002.html

For the approx. $8 the 301 cost, you might be better off just getting another laser with more output power.

well I did buy a good AW protected 18650 battery and charger so I've spent around 40$ just to use the 8$ laser. I want something worthwhile for the battery i got! If I could swap a 50$ diode/module into it for around 100-200mw i'd be happy. It seems from that thread they are estimating it's a 12mm module?

so if i got something like this:

200mW 532nm Green Laser Module (3V 11.9mm) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme

would I need anything else for parts, or would I just swap this one with some soldering?:thanks:

depends on the setup. honestly ive never had a 301! but i have had a few of those modules.. they can be pretty bright and powerful.. my last one metered at about 130mW.
they are the standard 12mm. welcome to the world of lasers.. make it work is sometimes the way to go

You had better read the entire 301-303 Host Breakdown thread---they usually need to be opened with force due to section being glued together --people damage the host with double channel locks to get the pieces apart and module is sometime difficult to remove being press fit. I would suggest you see if you can disassemble yours before wasting money on a module for $30.

You might be better off just buying one of these 100mW http://www.o-like.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=405&zenid=a3dgho2jdgfff39lqdcsrp6uc5 or the 50mW version .
There is a good current review of the 50mW model here----in fact the guy bought 5 of the 50mW version and they were all over 100mW. Is only $25 see New Rocking High Power Green laser 50mW torch/focusable [OL-ROG50] - $25.99 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce see thread http://laserpointerforums.com/f41/thumbs-up-o-like-92548.html
