G-Ball lens on NUGM01T

I've scoured the fourm and have gotten mixed messages with G-Ball lenses on ~520nm diodes. Is it safe to remove (after the removal process, because I know it's a delicate process that can damage the diode). I'm just not sure if it's safe to remove and then use without the lenses in a module. I know for a fact blues (405 445 450 etc) have an inert gas inside that reduces the lifespan if you decap them, but the NUGM01Ts state that there's "No Outgas". I just wanted to ask to see if anyone's had any experience with decapped 520nm diodes or the NUGM01T in particular.
Thank you in advance!
Cheers

The greens should be fine without the gas but you're still open to dust and other particles getting on the internal diode parts which can be kinda risky imo.

"You can also buy this 1W+ 520nm Sharp diode at the same price and it has a window can GH05C01B9G"
- Red cowboy (can't link cause sub 20 posts)

The unfortunate thing is I already have the NUGM01T and forgot to shop around for ones that comes with the window can. Picked it up for $36 so I'm just looking at workarounds.
I'm assuming since the only issue would be dust particles and such I can theoretically just keep the lens on my module and not swap it out as often.
I'll eventually pick up that sharp diode too but I just found this at a great price and couldn't pass it up.

Ah yes I saw that. I might have to pick that up at some point. For now though I gave in and bought the Sharp GH05C01B9G aswell. Will update when it arrives and see how well it runs. I just didn't really like how I had to stack lenses and the losses from stacking asformentioned lenses.

The loss is fairly minimal but it certainly extends the total length of the module.

I see, if the loss isn't too bad then it shouldn't be an real issue for me. I'll probably end up doing that at some point. I have a 25mm host for the 9mm diode. I wanted to have a beefy heatsink for the green cause it one of my more expensive diodes. Also it would look wonky with a 12mm lens adapter sticking out of it. I could just mill another 25mm chunk of copper that has a 12.5mm ID and just use a set screw to mount it on the adapter so it can match the diameter of the module. But since I just ordered the sharp I'll use that and then keep the NUGM01T on the back burner until I get around to wanting to make another green pointer.
