Focusing the CNI

I have an X105 with divergence of 1.2mRad. The dot gets pretty big over a long distance and even though that is a pretty good divergence figure, I want it a lot better focused. I have heard that you can focus a CNI but I don't know how. My question is, how can I focus it? I included a picture with the aperture cap removed so you can tell me what I should turn or whatever. And will this be risky cause the last thing I want is a $200 led? Any help would be nice, thanks!

If you want to focus it, just shine it through a magnifying glass.

If by focus you mean improve collimation, you can't really do that without a huge modification. Whenever you improve divergence of something that's already collimated, you have to increase the beam diameter.

Crap I thought there was a way just to make the dot smaller at a long distance in the same way that you can focus an Aixiz module so the dot is small at a long distance. Oh well it was worth asking.

Well, it all depends on the initial size. The larger the initial size, the smaller you can focus it at distance. It will be the same with any laser including aixiz though - you just can't focus it down to a point at whatever distance you want... unfortunately those damn laws of physics screw us over again.

If you want to play with the collimation on your greenie, find a spanner or something to fit into those two holes on either side of the lens, and then you can move that plate around by turning it.

So all I have to do is stick somethhing in those holes and rotate it? That doesnt seem so risky, which is nice to hear.

As long as it isn't glued in that is all you need to do. I have no experience with these things...lol. But if it does rotate, only do a little at a time to make sure you are rotating in the right direction. Remember, if you can focus it for distance you will not be able to burn up close. You might be able to find a happy medium. I was able to with my DIY red.

Yea I have gotten mine to be focusable but not without voiding my warranty. I was trying to clean the lens and the stuff went behind it. Also it degraded the glue they used to glue my lens and lens holder so my lens fell off and I was able to take the lens holder out. After that I cleaned all of the glue from the barrel so that the holder would screw up and down with ease.

I have ordered new lenses because when the other fell out it got chipped and it make a nice little blotch off the the side of the dot.

Here is a pic of my laser at the moment. I can screw the lens holder all the down to the IR filter.

Well if I didn't mess it up to begin with I never would have. Was surprised at how easy it was though. Makes me wander why they don't make these focusable in the first place. Wouldn't take too much to do it.
