Hi LPF,

I've been working on my first laser building off a "200"mw green module from dealextreme which looks like this:
DealExtreme

I have successfully removed the wires and attached a spring, no problem.

I bought a cheap host for it here:

DIY/Test Laser Torcstlye Hosts/For 12x60mm Laser Module | eBay

It's supposed to be focusable. The page states that it fits modules like mine.

It can also be found here:
OdicForce

and it seems to be the host for these lasers here:
O-Like
Rayfoss

Problem is, the module is too long to fit inside the host with the lenses on.
Please observe the components lined up here:
Click (Please excuse crappy camerawork)
The object at the top is the focus ring, twisting that moves it up or down the shaft of the cap (the object below the focus ring).
The lenses of the module do NOT fit inside the focus ring.

The expanding and collimating lenses of the module can be removed as shown here:
Click
The module fits inside the host with these lenses removed, but of course it would then just be a bright green round spotlight, not a precise dot.

Does anybody have this host?
How is it focusable? The OdicForce page says
The rotating focus adjust mount at the front of the laser is internally threaded to directly accept the lens that is mounted at the front of many green laser modules.
- Does this mean I have fit a lens inside the focus ring?

Thanks for any help

You should be able to remove the lens from the green module and thread it into the cap on the host. That seems pretty stupid but it is the only way I can think of. Is the cap threads on the host the same diameter as the lens inside the green module?

Unfortunately the lens cap is about 2mm wider in diameter.

I contacted the seller and they said they would send me a lens that fits. I'll wait and hope that it does.

If they send you a lens that will fit how will that solve the problem?

You still will need to dismantle the module :/

The module fits fine without the front (collimating) lens. The problem with this is that it obviously needs a collimating lens to project a precise dot instead of a spotlight. So, a seperate lens which fits in the head of the torch would solve the problem (and would be focusable)

I understand that, I mean from their products point of view, you still need to dismantle the module to make it work.

Unless you mean to say, they accidentally forgot to add the lens in your package.

I totally agree, it doesn't really make sense.
