What is the difference between the two batteries? The Energizer recharable nimh batteries work a lot better than the eneoops in my optotronics 30mw pen laser. Why is this? Both batteries are charged. When I use eneloops it starts out bright then drops to very little output after about 5 minutes of non-continuous use. The Energizer batteries last way over 5 minutes of non-continuous use.

Eneloop batteries are so called low self discharge NiMH batteries. They will discharge much slower than regular NiMHs. But, normally (at least when they were just out on the market) LSD NiMHs are also less powerful than regular NiMHs. So that's a possible explanation why your eneloops are depleted quicker than the energizers. Check the mAh of both types, and you'll know for sure.
