[ebay] 808nm 1watt currently at $11

Hurry <21 hours? Heh. I imagine it'll skyrocket near the end. Maybe I'll place a low bid just in case it doesn't though :D

theres a similar seller that sells these they go about $20-$25 and free postage worldwide as well as one seller that sells for $20+13 postage. its worth bidding on though, the other day one of these went for $15, i was pretty pissed off i didn't bid on it :scowl:

Those Lasers don't have a FAC lens and the output dot will look like
this "--------"....
You will need 2 lenses to collimate it into a burning beam...

If you plan on pumping anything with this, dont count on it being 808nm. Though it may be close, if its what it looks like then it will be a good burner, nothing more..

To me, it looks like another off spec Boston Lasers heurr diode. Almost all auctions you see for 808's that are in the US, which are cheap $$$, lead back to the same monster lot of LD's that heurr. scored a while back. He was selling them for 10$ IIRC, and also in 'lot' auctions.

* You may want to ask the seller for a pic of the bottom of the LD, if its marked up with black marker, than it is most likely from the surplus batch mentioned above.

it just so happens that the ones i was looking at do have something written on them:

They are good diodes, dont get me wrong, but the wavelength wont be good for pumping.

I think most of them come in at 1250mW or so at 1400mA, though running them a tad lower than 1400 may be wise.

Those LD's are poping up from all sorts of sellers...

For a true 808nm, best bet is Soctony on ebay. For a good burner, these are perfect, but as LasersBee stated, a pain to focus..

ok cool, i would most likely be using it as a burner, any idea how much they variate by? (nm)

I dont have a specific means of testing it other than I jig I use with a crystal set. The difference that I see is the highest output I can get through the medium, and which will make a good candidate for a labby.

I had somewhere around 20 of these, 15 that worked, 9 pr 10 that actually hit a good output of 980mW and up and IIRC 2 that were suitable for pumping.

I will know how good the 2 are when I get them mounted up.

My goggles are rated od-4 810nm +/- 20nm , and none of the diodes could pass them.
Im assuming that out of the ones I tested, none are outside those numbers.

It is possible that some are 980nm as well, so test your goggles with a cam before you rely on them..just in case. Should you purchase one...

I bought 5 of these diodes. What should be fed? how many amps? how much base current without TTL signal and with TTL signal? thanks

Read all the Posts in this Thread... the info is already
posted...

This is a Laser Diode... not a TTL compatible Driver....
Again.... Read the Thread...:undecided:

I read it, but I was wondering the value of current minimum Basic. the current always arrives at the diode in the absence of TTL signal from the driver. Sorry for English, perhaps I had expressed myself badly. Thanks

Directly from the description of the eBay Seller linked to in the
1st Post.....

You are biding on one brand new high power 808nm laser diode that puts out 1 watt of power, made in the USA. 2.2 volts at 1.2 or 1.3 amps is ideal.

BTW... there is nothing wrong with your English...

I agree. But I asked other technical data. I have the driver flexmod by dr lava, I set the base current and then the max. The basis must be what? the threshold current, what should be and then what goes down. All to increase the life of the diode. thanks

You first need to know....
1) what is the Laser power you require (only you know that)
2) what are the specs of your Laser (only the Seller knows that)
3) the threshold current is the lowest current required to start
the Laser Diode Lasing (only the Seller knows that current)

If the Max Rating of ANY Laser diode is surpassed it is a known
fact that LD lifetime will suffer..
